Charlotte is the Communications Coordinator at Innovia Films, a company with around 90 years’ experience of supplying speciality films to the packaging and labelling industry. She has completed the CIPR Foundation Award in Public Relations (Level 3) and progressed to finish the CIPR Professional PR Certificate (Level 5).

What was the turning point that made you decide to study this PR qualification?

Having found a role I enjoy, I wanted to gain more knowledge around Public Relations and learn the best practices for communicating with other businesses. For me, it was learning the methods in writing the best content for the consumer to understand. I also wanted to learn how to evaluate the work that I was producing to ensure I reached the
correct audiences in the best way.

Having completed it successfully, is there anything you have discovered about yourself in the process?

I discovered that I could achieve anything I set my mind too. Completing this course in a shorter timescale than anticipated and under challenging circumstances, working from home with two young children and virtual tutorials have made me realise my capabilities and my determination to achieve.

Has studying with nesma helped you in your career?

Studying this course has increased my confidence and has allowed me to contribute more to everyday work situations, improving my performance within my role.

What did you enjoy most about the qualification?

I enjoyed the interaction with the tutors and the others on the course. We were all from different industries, and I found it fascinating to see what tools worked for one sector, did not always work for another. The tutors were very knowledgeable, and they made a conscious effort to ensure all participants and their industries were catered for.

What type of things do you do differently as a result of your studies?

I am now working towards developing my career, taking on more responsibility and writing more PR for the business. I feel my planning process is much stronger, and my message is more targeted.

What words of advice would you give anyone considering a career in PR?

Go for it! PR is an ever-changing role that is always providing new challenges, and what I like most is that every day is different. PR is a broad topic which will allow you to work in various industries.

What do you enjoy most when you aren’t doing the day job?

I enjoy spending time with my family, having two young children, I don’t have much time for anything else.
