Powering up your People Management – Harnessing Potential

Overview

Understanding others is key to your success as a people manager, in this session we will demystify the principles of behaviour, performance and learning so you understand the key factors that encourage and support positive behaviour and performance.

Knowing how to influence, motivate and inspire others will help you to maximise the potential of the people in your team. We will apply some of the key concepts of behavioural science in a clear and practical way.

Course structure

This is a bite-sized 90-minute virtual session to help improve your understanding and capability when developing others. It will be interactive, including an activity to assess current development potential within your team.

It will cover:

Psychological safety

  • Although a relatively new topic for the boardroom, this basic human need holds the key to maximising the potential of individuals within a business and their collective innovation and improvement. We will use this perspective to consider your organisational culture and its impact on the performance of employees.

Sources of motivation and influence

  • As a leader you rely on motivating others to make things happen. We will use examples from everyday life to identify key sources of motivation and key influences on behaviour, both in terms of encouraging the behaviours you do want from your team and discouraging the ones you don’t.

Diagnosing skill and will

  • Taking part in this practical activity will enable you to reflect on current skill and will levels within your team, which will provide clues as to the most effective strategy for developing their skills and improving their performance.
