Rebecca graduated with a CIM Diploma in Professional Digital Marketing Level 6 which has helped her progress in her career with Dodd & Co Chartered Accountants & Business Advisers.
Tell us about your career journey so far?
I haven’t always been in marketing. I was previously a seamstress for wedding and bridesmaids dresses, and I continued this outside of work and alongside my studies – so it was a lot of hard work! When I joined Dodd & Co, they said that they thought I’d fit perfectly into the marketing department – and were they right! I began as a trainee but very quickly progressed to a senior role when studying my qualifications. I’m excited to see what the future holds now that I am fully qualified.
What is your current job in a nutshell?
Realistically – I’m a bit everywhere and all over the place, but I love it! Some days I can be out at shows, others I’m in the office comparing statistics and some days I’m making newsletters or adverts or organising events for the upcoming months. There’s always more than one job to be doing, but that’s what keeps me motivated.
What is the most enjoyable part of your job?
I still remember seeing my first full-page article in print in the newspaper – what a thrill knowing I had written it all! So I’d probably say seeing the final product; be it an advert, a newsletter or even an event! Seeing it all come together, knowing the work that went into it is very satisfying. And that’s how I feel about completing my qualification too; hard work but rewarding.
How has studying with nesma helped you in your current role?
The knowledge, even when not put into practice, has just given me the confidence to take charge of my role, knowing that I have the qualifications to inform my decision making will definitely to help achieve better outcomes.
What words of advice would you give anyone considering a career in marketing?
Sounds weird- but when meeting new people fake it ’til you make it!! Nobody knows you’re stressing about walking into a room full of people you don’t know – they probably feel the same – but to market properly and to progress yourself you need to make new connections with new people. Confidence is key! I’m still working on mine, but you never stop learning!
