Emily is the Marketing Manager at Sterling Pharma Solutions and is working her way through the CIM qualifications with us! First, she completed the CIM Certificate in Professional Digital Marketing (L4) followed by the CIM Diploma in Professional Marketing (L6). Now she is working towards the CIM Diploma in Professional Digital Marketing (L6), which will give her a dual qualification at degree level.

Why did you choose to move onto the Level 6 qualification?

I studied my Level 4 qualification in 2019 to help me develop my theoretical marketing knowledge. After a couple of years’ break and stepping into a new role in summer 2020, I decided it was the right time to build on that knowledge. At university, I studied Journalism, so it was also important to me to gain an equivalent qualification in marketing. I have just completed my Level 6 in Professional Marketing, and I’m now going to complete my Level 6 in Professional Digital Marketing, so I will get two qualifications from completing four modules, rather than one qualification from three!

Has studying with nesma helped you in your career?

Studying with nesma, both at Level 4 and Level 6, has helped me build the confidence I need to develop. I definitely wouldn’t be in the role I am today if I hadn’t completed my Level 4 qualification. I hadn’t even realised how vital theoretical knowledge is until completing the qualification. It made everything in my role at the time slot into place.

What type of things do you do differently now?

I’ve become more regimented in my routine to ensure that I am completing assignment tasks in enough time, but I’m also making sure that I take at least one day a weekend to myself. Whether that’s to go for dinner, meet a friend, or catch up on a series – I always feel like life is speeding along, and taking that time to slow right back down has been important to provide balance while I’ve been working on this final module. I think this is something I will carry on doing, even once I’ve completed my studies. I think secretly, deep down, I must enjoy the pressure.

What words of advice would you give anyone considering a career in marketing/PR?

I would definitely recommend studying a CIM qualification with nesma. Like I say, it has enabled me to develop the career I have today and provided the confidence I lacked.

What are the significant changes within your industry at present?

My industry is growing quickly, and it’s so exciting to be a part of the ongoing digital change. I’m excited to see what comes next and how I can use what I have learned in my studies to support it.

What do you enjoy most when you aren’t doing the day job?

I haven’t had a chance to do much outside of my day job and studying! The one thing I always make sure to do, though, is to carve time out for exercise, as it gives me time to think and clear my head.

The CIM Diploma in Professional Marketing is a Level 6 qualification and is the equivalent to an undergraduate degree. Ideal for individuals who wish to develop their strategic marketing knowledge and management capabilities.
