Introduction to Public Relations

Overview

This course is aimed at people new to public relations who want to learn more.  It will equip them with a foundation in practical PR and introduce them to the writing and media relationship skills they will need in new PR roles.

Course structure

This is a bite-sized 90 minute virtual interactive session to help you improve your understanding of PR with tips and techniques to help you in your role.

It will cover:

What is public relations?

How it differs from advertising and marketing. What is the value of PR and how it can benefit your organisation or brand.

What are the different types of PR?

We will look at different disciplines and when to use them, from media relations to public affairs.  We will consider crisis communications and social media and how they fit into your PR plan.

Audiences and how to reach them.

You want your message to reach a wide range of people so we will look at effective ways to reach them in the most efficient way.  And we’ll look at different PR writing skills to suit each audience.
