Emma Tarbuck proves hard work pays off when building a successful career.
After finishing her A-Levels Emma knew that University wasn’t right for her. She chose instead to dive straight into the working world to gain valuable training and experience on the job; working her way up from Customer Services to the Marketing Team.
We caught up with Emma, who is currently studying for her CIM Level 4 Certificate in Professional Marketing with nesma.

Your job in a nutshell
I work in the Marketing department and support the Product Manager with new product developments, organising exhibitions, and day to day tasks such as analysing sales figures and researching new market opportunities.
How did you get your job?
I left sixth form with no intention of going to university and applied for a ‘Commercial Apprentice’ role within the company. I spent a year working in Customer Service and a year in the Sales and Marketing department. Throughout this time I completed a Level 2 NVQ in Business Admin, and a Level 3 NVQ in Customer Service. Upon completion of my apprenticeship, I was offered a permanent position as a Marketing Assistant. I have since completed my Level 3 Certificate in Marketing with nesma and I’m currently studying towards completing my Level 4.
4 years on and I am still enjoying my job!
What is the most enjoyable part of your job?
Going into work and not knowing what is going to be thrown at you. Some days can be spent behind a desk collating and analysing sales figures, and others can be spent visiting distributors and collecting samples from customers to support trials.
What was the best day of your work so far?
The day I have enjoyed the most at work so far has to be the days spent at the Global sales meeting in Newcastle with 81 employees from other RENOLIT sites across the world. Knowing that I had been involved with organising the 3 days of presentations, meetings and evening entertainment gave me an immense feeling of pride and success.
What was your first job?
My first job was in Wilko’s working on the tills and stacking shelves.
Why do you love working in your industry?
The manufacturing industry is always changing from one day to the next meaning my job is never repetitive and always exciting.
How has studying with nesma helped you in your current role?
Having completed my level 3 and now working towards my level 4, nesma has helped me understand my marketing role in more detail and implement my knowledge into the workplace.
