From this, you will start to develop interpersonal skills that can communicate the change vision, enlist your ‘volunteer army’ to make change happen and communicate short term wins that keep the change process moving. Answering the question: ‘Change Management, how do we take people with us?’

Session three – ‘Change Management, how do we make it stick?

In the final session, we will look at how organisations identify and mitigate the risks involved in change. We will learn how they identify the investment in time, cost, and effort to implement change and how to set measures to quantify the change wins.  The wins include increased morale, performance, and capabilities.

From this, you will gain an understanding of how you help your organisation consolidate these wins and embed the changes. Answering the question: ‘Change: how do we make it stick?

1. What is Change Management? How do we recognise the need for change and make it happen?’

Change Management is an enabling process which focuses on the people side of change and as a manager, you must understand why change is happening in your organisation.

To be effective you must be able to communicate the need for this change to either the strategic or to the delivery level of your organisation.  You must also be able to deliver this change to the satisfaction of both the strategic leadership and the delivery teams.

Leaders fit in with change by ensuring they make the best-informed decisions for their teams, by doing the ‘right thing’! Managers fit in with change by ensuring change works both for the leaders and those that deliver for an organisation, by doing ‘things right’!

We will deep dive into why we need change management and knowing our place in the change process.

We will cover:

  • The changing environment: creating urgency or dealing with urgency
  • Building a guiding coalition: a team with enough power and influence to lead the change
  • Creating the compelling future vision: A target state for all involved

2. ‘Change Management, how do we take people with us?’

With change we need to see the need, move to meet the need and finish when there is no more need for it!  Successful change is led by people who deliver literally ‘where the rubber meets the road’, those with the ability to build a high concept pitch backed with the ability to clearly define success for all involved.  They will deal with teams who need the energy and drive to see it through, they deal with the teams who may be exhausted by the process and the teams who constantly ask are we there yet?

We will cover:

  • Communicating the vision: Role modelling new behaviours creating a ‘high concept’ pitch
  • Enlisting your volunteer army: Empowering action.
  • Creating the short-term wins: Define success and KISS (keep it small and simple)

3. ‘Change Management, how do we make it stick?

Change management ensures that the change leaves an organisation better than it was beforeThis involves understanding what is driving the change, understanding the risks, understanding the people motivators, understanding the benefits, and having the ability to embed the change firmly within the culture of the organisation.

We will cover:

  • What is driving the change: Organisations choose the right change based on their constraints around time, cost, and effort.
  • Quantifying the benefits of the change: How to quantify the benefits of the change for the whole organisation.
  • Embedding the change: How to ensure the change is adopted by the whole organisation.
