Work experience is essential to a student’s learning journey, helping them bridge the gap between classroom education and the real world. It allows students to explore different career options, develop practical skills, and understand workplace expectations firsthand. Through hands-on experience, they can improve their communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities while building confidence in a professional environment.
This week, we had the pleasure of Charlie’s company. He is a Business Student at Whitley Bay High School, and here are his own words about his experience.
I completed a work experience placement at nesma. This outstanding study centre provides flexible learning opportunities for people interested in Marketing and the ability to earn recognised CIM and CIPR qualifications.
Not only did I receive a very warm welcome and become a stronger student in the field of Marketing and PR, but I also gained Level 3 nesma certification in 3 areas, Marketing Essentials, Market Research and Content & Channels. Each of these courses includes 4 hours of CPD, meaning that I completed 12 hours of CPD in total. These nesma short course have allowed me to build up credits towards the CIM Foundation Certificate in Professional and Digital Marketing (L3).
The experience was beneficial in lots of ways, and I have countless positive takeaways from it. I learned more about the inner workings and day-to-day working life of a business that distributes services with exceptional quality. In addition, I developed problem-solving skills and my ability to discuss adaptation and improvement of marketing strategies. I acquired a knowledge of the qualities of a first-rate marketer and many more valuable skills and abilities that can be applied to many different scenarios and my future career.
The future is bright for nesma with an exciting new rebrand on the horizon! As part of my experience, I was given the chance to comment on the rebrand and give the team feedback and ideas from a young person’s perspective, which were then implemented to strengthen the brand’s message.
Towards the end of the placement, I was able to attend a meeting with nesma’s owners and staff during which I contributed to a discussion concerning the next steps for the development of the brand and website. It was a great chance to get a feel for how nesma’s workforce comes together to share ideas and encourage its growth. I felt comfortable generating ideas and sharing my views, which were recognised and appreciated by the team.
Thank you for all your company and contributions, Charlie.
We wish you all the best and are always available as a sounding board for your development plans.
