What I do for nesma

I deliver on CIM Level 6 Diploma in Professional Marketing specifically, the Managing Brands module.

My background

I have had a varied career working first in design and print, before taking an MSc in Marketing and moving into a Faculty Marketing Manager role at a University Business School. This was a role I held for 13 years running a marketing team, planning marketing communications campaigns, managing student recruitment, devising marketing plans, and overseeing brand and communications implementation across online and offline channels.

My work in student-facing recruitment at open days and school/college taster sessions inspired a career development towards teaching and I achieved a PGCE professional teaching qualification in 2011. For many years I combined a Marketing Manager role with part-time teaching.

I am currently a Senior Lecturer, specialising in branding and marketing communications, at Manchester Metropolitan University.

I have been teaching CIM qualifications across brand, communications, marketing strategy, and digital modules since 2018.

My skills and experience

My career trajectory and experience allow me to bring the practical knowledge gained in the design, print, and marketing industries into the classroom. Having developed brands, run communications campaigns, and written marketing plans, I can reflect on my own understanding and practice, and combine this with maintaining a deep understanding of developments in the marketing field from an academic perspective.

I have publishing and research interests in the field of the craft beer industry, particularly the brand design and artwork of craft beer packaging.

Away from work I am a Director and Secretary of a community cinema CIC organisation.

Why do I love my job?

I first had a desire to move into teaching because I found the process of knowledge exchange extremely rewarding. I share the success of the students that I teach and understand the rewards and opportunities that achievement through education and professional development can offer.
