K.Jones- Higher resKathryn Jones is studying the CIM Level Certificate in Professional Marketing in Cumbria. She spoke to us about her new role as Careers and Employability Coordinator for the University of Cumbria and how the CIM course has been beneficial in her new job.

When I started my Level 4 CIM Professional Certificate in Marketing I was working at Cumbria Chamber of Commerce as a Women’s Enterprise Coordinator on the Cumbria Business Growth Hub Project. As the project came to an end I began looking for a new role and I found one as Careers and Employability Coordinator at the University of Cumbria. I had previously worked as a Graduate Intern with the Library and Student Services team at the University of Cumbria so I had a good understanding of the university and the work of the Careers Service.

Having completed my first Level 4 module ‘Marketing’ and studying for the ‘Integrated Communications’ module, with the intention to complete the full certificate, added to my application for my current position. It was beneficial because part of my job is to promote the Careers and Employability Service and organise and advertise employability events across 8 campuses and sites including Carlisle, Lancaster and London. Other work activities include providing CV and application feedback, promoting the Careers and Employability Service at events for potential and current students and presenting at employability workshops. I’ve been in my new role for 4 months now and I’m really enjoying it!
