Matt is a Communications Manager at Virgin Money, he has recently graduated with the CIM L6 Diploma in Professional Marketing (Digital Strategy) which is equivalent to a BA (Hons) degree.
Why did you choose to study for a CIM qualification?
To improve my knowledge and understanding of marketing practices and increase my future career prospects.
What did you discover about yourself in the process?
I have finished the course with a real sense of achievement; there were times when it was challenging to juggle my learning alongside home commitments and a full-time job. Now I’ve got my qualification; I am pleased I stuck with it and delighted to have increased knowledge to call on.
Has studying with us benefited your career?
Yes, I feel more confident as I now have more technical knowledge alongside the experience.
What did you enjoy most about the studying process?
My situation meant that I needed to defer a module; it helped me massively that I could do that and continue my learning at a better time to suit my circumstances.
What type of things do you do differently now?
Start earlier! Despite the best planning, life gets in the way, so the earlier pen goes to paper, the better. Given the time again, I would also lean more on the expertise of the nesma team. The team were always happy to chat through any issues or concerns and offer support and guidance.
What words of advice would you give anyone considering a career in communications?
There are so many aspects to marketing, and there is something for everyone.
What are the significant changes within your industry at present?
The impact of Covid is vast on the financial services industry, with even more people moving away from branches and applying for / managing their accounts online.
What do you enjoy most when you aren’t doing the day job?
I’ve two children under five, so they are like a second job!
