Meet Khalid Almashgari

Khalid is now an Account Director with AMV BBDO and he get’s to talk about football, a lot! He made this leap with a little bit of help by studying the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) accredited qualifications.

Your job in a nutshell

I am in charge of the BT Sport account at AMV BBDO and I am responsible for creating, managing and producing all of their major marketing campaigns (ATL and BTL).

What has your career journey been so far?

I started at a small agency in the North East called Cravens. After a year I made the move down to London and joined an agency called Fallon, working as an Account Manager on Cadbury’s and Giffgaff. I was then contacted by a recruiter about an opportunity to work on BT Sport at AMV BBDO (an agency I had been keen to join previously) and I have been here ever since.

What is the most enjoyable part of your job?

Because I work on a sport account I get to talk about football all day!

What was the best day of your work so far?

Hanging out with all the Real Madrid players when shooting an ad with them at their training ground in Spain.

Tell us more about your first job!

I started as an Account Executive at Cravens in the North East. This was a fantastic starting point for me as it enabled me to get industry relevant experience and really allowed me to cut my teeth in a marketing environment. I would recommend starting at a smaller agency to anyone looking to get involved in advertising/marketing as you get more exposure at an earlier stage.

Why do you love working in your industry?

It’s young, vibrant and fun. It’s also a great feeling when people see your work and like it!

Has studying with nesma help you in your current role?

Absolutely. Studying with Nesma enabled me to get industry relevant qualifications when I first started out and it gave me something to discuss in interviews. This was particularly helpful as I initially came from a legal background and didn’t have any marketing qualifications.
