Meet Jaya who works for Hay & Kilner Law Firm
What is your job in a nutshell?
I work for a leading regional law firm where I help to drive customer acquisition and retention activities and assist in building the organisation’s profile externally and internally.
Tell us about your career journey so far?
Having taken a particular interest in B2B marketing and the ‘data’ movement whilst studying Marketing and Management at university, I graduated into a market research role where I ran customer feedback programs for professional services across different sectors. I progressed in the account management and marketing team before deciding to take the next step. I am now working “client side” at Hay & Kilner and enjoy the variety involved in my role.
How did you get your first job?
The graduate scheme I joined was advertised on the Milkround back in 2010/11. I was thrilled to have been offered such a strong opportunity in the North East having studied outside of the region, particularly as it was a Newcastle-headed global company.
What is the most enjoyable part of your job?
Implementing campaigns in-house at Hay & Kilner which combine marketing and relationship management activities for the firm as a whole, and for specific service lines and industries. Our offering is targeted at a wide range of audience demographics and it’s great to be able to engage with both business and consumer audiences. At the start of 2017, we spent time refreshing our branding across all channels, which is also something I’m proud to have been a part of. I particularly enjoy being able to directly support the people I work with.
What do you love about working in your industry?
Marketing legal services is an interesting challenge, not only because of the intangibility of the product but also because the stakeholders who you are engaging with are rarely the end customer. They might be the client’s organisation, the third party introducer or even somebody who is seeking advice on behalf of somebody else. It’s about building trust over time and being at the forefront of your audience’s mind at the point that they need to appoint legal support.
Has studying with nesma helped you in your current role?
Studying for CIM qualifications with Nesma has steered me to approach my job more proactively and strategically. It’s also a real bonus to have joined a network of marketers who support each other beyond the classroom in our working lives.
