What I do for nesma

I am one of the tutors teaching on the CIM Certificate in Professional Marketing Level 4.

My background

I graduated from Leeds University with a degree in media and management and went straight into a marketing job in local government. After 18 months, I was offered a position as a PR Account Executive in what was the largest PR agency outside London at the time. Since then my career has been as an in-house marketing professional in B2B environments, mainly construction and manufacturing. I worked in London for six years before returning to the North East in 2014. I studied the CIM Professional Postgraduate Diploma, whilst working and went on to become a Chartered Marketer, which I have retained for the last seven years. Last year I was delighted to be made a Fellow of CIM.

My particular skills and experience

Whilst I was Head of Corporate Communications at VolkerWessels UK, one of the top ten civil engineering contractors in the UK I was lucky enough to work on some major contracts including London 2012 and Crossrail. My current remit is to oversee marketing across the British Engines Group worldwide, developing consistency and setting standards of delivery. As the strategic lead for marketing, reporting to the main board, I also manage our community engagement. I have also recently been awarded a Fellowship from CIM.

Why I love my job!

The North East is full of passionate and professional people who are supportive, inspirational and very good at what they do, I wanted the chance to put something back by mentoring and nurturing new talent in the region.
