Hannah talks about marketing for tomorrow
Hannah Cundall, Marketing Senior, at David Allen, based in Dalston, Carlisle is a recent nesma graduate having completed her CIM L4 in Professional Marketing choosing the Digital Marketing elective module.
How has studying with nesma helped you in your current role?
Studying with nesma has allowed me to develop my skills and has provided me with greater confidence in my role. I was informed that successful completion of the CIM Certificate in Professional Marketing – Level 4 would increase my knowledge, skills and understanding to perform at my current level and to carry out an essential and successful marketing role within my workplace. nesma delivered on that promise. I chose digital marketing as my elective module as I felt it was very relevant to today’s marketer, but each module was equally informative and helpful to me. I am looking forward to developing further with nesma and have already commenced my CIM Diploma in Professional Marketing – Level 6 studies.
What extra skills do you now feel you can bring to the job?
As I completed each module, I gained a new skill set. I now feel able to demonstrate the importance of marketing within the David Allen organisation both internally and externally and how this will deliver results. We have a marketing plan in place for 2018, and through these effective communications, we will provide value to our clients.
What words of advice would you give anyone considering a career in marketing?
Whether your expertise is a way with words, you have an eye for putting together imagery or implementing a strategy, a career in marketing allows you to become a key player in driving the success of a business. And a CIM qualification will help you gain the practical skills to progress you even further!
What is the most enjoyable part of your job?
Seeing results, knowing that my hard work has paid off. I hope after completing my Level 6
studies, I will be able to see an even more significant impact on the business.
Marketing is one of the most multi-skilled occupations there is. nesma has now worked with over 50 students in Cumbria to help them develop their marketing and communication skills. CIM qualifications are by no means essential for a career in marketing, but they do
demonstrate a commitment to the profession, and there’s no doubt that the CIM offers internationally recognised and respected qualifications. Marketers now need a wide range of skills to navigate the ever-changing world of marketing and one of the strengths of the CIM programmes is the way they constantly adapt and respond to changing conditions.

In February, as a Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) Study Centre, nesma celebrated the end of a successful term with 70 papers, eleven topics, four different qualification levels and an incredible 97% pass rate across the board rising to 100% in Cumbria. Modules studied include Marketing Strategy, Customer Experience, Digital Strategy, Driving Innovation, Digital Marketing, Digital Strategy and Digital Essentials.
Veronica Swindale set up nesma after a successful career in sales and marketing after recognising the need for continuous professional development at all levels. Now nesma is an accredited teaching centre for the Chartered Institute of Marketing, the Chartered Institute of Public relations and the Digital Marketing Institute in the North East, Scotland and Cumbria.
The new term for CIM levels 4 to 7 in Cumbria starts the week commencing 16 April, and we are delighted to announce we have another new course tutor, Mark Davis, joining the team. He has been in marketing and sales for over 30 years and is a Senior Examiner for Level 4 and Level 6 CIM qualifications.
Additional skills are becoming more valued by employers, and there are lots of ways to develop new skills or build on your old ones. It’s all about finding the right qualification for you!
