Getting Board Ready: How do I influence?


Any business needs to develop its leadership team.  Businesses with boards thrive when they develop their managers to join their boards. Understanding the difference between leadership and management is crucial to having a good board experience.  The next step is to understand the interaction between individuals and boards and the value different skill sets and personalities can bring to the group dynamic. Essentially new board attendees need to understand the dynamics at play within their board.

Course structure

This is a bite sized 90-minute virtual session to help you get ‘board ready’.  It will be interactive to ensure you focus on your individual needs.

The difference between leadership & management

  • Good organisations need effective leadership and management.  A clear understanding of these two roles helps create a better fit on any board.

The essential individual skills, personalities and ‘boardroom capital’ needed, and how they should work together within a board.

  • This will identify the behavioural traits of a good director, the basic skills set they require, and the types of intelligence needed for a good board director.  There will also be room to look at some of the new skill sets many boards are now looking for.

Understanding the dynamics at work within a board of individuals.

  • Understanding group dynamics is an important part of working at board level. We look at practical examples of how these dynamics appear in the board room.
