CIM Certificate in Professional Marketing – Level 4

Course Overview

A course for the aspiring professional marketer who wishes to gain knowledge and skills to succeed and progress within a career in marketing.

This course is for the practising marketer, full of contemporary marketing content to equip you for the current global landscape. Successful completion of the Certificate will establish the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to be able to perform at an operational level and to carry out an essential and successful marketing role within the workplace.

The CIM Level 4 Certificate in Professional Marketing will give you the ability to understand the wider role of marketing and how your practical skills can be applied to your career progression within the marketing profession. Successful achievement of the CIM Certificate will allow progression onto the CIM Diploma in Professional Marketing (Level 6).

Course Modules

Marketing

The Marketing module is about recognising the importance of marketing’s role in driving success and delivering results. It covers the knowledge and understanding of the function of marketing within the organisation and demonstrates how an appreciation of customer behaviour can enable effective targeting. It provides an understanding of how external environmental influences affect planning and how information enables decision making. It outlines the elements of the marketing mix and how these are applied to address market and customer needs.

  • Creating effective communications to deliver value to customers
  • Understanding product and brand management
  • The marketing communications mix
  • Developing integrated marketing communications.

Integrated Communications

The Integrated Communications module aims to show the importance of effective internal and external communications in building sustainable relationships and delivering customer value. It provides the opportunity to recognise the importance of communications planning in delivering marketing solutions. It explains how the concept of product and brand management can enable organisations to deliver customer value. It outlines the components of the marketing communications mix and enables understanding of integrated marketing communications planning.

Customer Experience (elective)

The Customer Experience module shows how a deeper knowledge of customer requirements within different contexts allows organisations to enhance the customer experience. It provides the skills and understanding to assess customer expectations in context and to develop and deliver activities that meet those expectations. It introduces customer experience frameworks and highlights how to establish effective monitoring and measurement techniques that ultimately enable organisations to improve customer experience.

Digital Marketing (elective)

The Digital Marketing module is about appreciating the importance of the ever-evolving, dynamic digital landscape, and understanding how to develop skills to improve digital marketing effectiveness. It provides awareness of the nature of the challenges and opportunities within the digital environment and outlines the skills and tools required to support and enhance marketing activities. It identifies the importance of effective digital monitoring and measurement techniques that enable organisations to improve digital marketing effectiveness performance.

  • The impact and influence of the dynamic digital environment
  • Key digital tools and how they support and enhance marketing
  • The relevance of digital platforms and channels in context
  • Digital activities to support and enhance multichannel marketing
  • Key principles involved in monitoring and measuring digital marketing effectiveness

Assessment Method

Marketing – 3 month study period – A two hour multiple choice online examination comprising of 50 questions.

Integrated Communications – 3 month study period – An assignment over three tasks based on a given scenario and an organisation of your choice.

Customer Experience (elective) – 3 month study period – An assignment over three tasks based on a given scenario and an organisation of your choice.

Digital Marketing (elective) – 3 month study period – Submission of a work-based portfolio which is broken down into three tasks – research, plan and report.

Entry Requirements

  • a CIM Level 3 Introductory Certificate in Marketing qualification
  • any relevant level 3 qualification
  • any UK degree or International equivalent
  • international Baccalaureate (equivalent to a NQF Level 3 and above)
  • professional practice (suggested one year in a marketing role) and diagnostic assessment onto level 4
